The Interior Ministry has warned drivers that driving without lights at night in Qatar is a serious traffic violation. According to Article 70 of the Traffic Law No. 19 of 2007, vehicles are not allowed to be on the road without the necessary lights from sunset to sunrise or during the daytime when visibility is impaired due to bad weather. The ministry reminded drivers to ensure that their headlights and taillights are working before starting night journeys. In addition, the law stipulates that high-beam lights should be replaced with dipped or side lights to avoid obscuring the vision of drivers when vehicles are approaching from the opposite direction, and that red lights should not be used in front of vehicles.
Qatar Al Meezan Legal Portal stated that those who violate Article 70 of the Traffic Law will face severe penalties under Article 95. Those who commit such violations may be sentenced to imprisonment for a period of one week to one year, a fine of QR3,000 to QR10,000, or both. This is not an automatic fine, but a punitive measure imposed by the court based on the seriousness of the situation. The ministry has issued this warning as part of its awareness programs to ensure road safety and reduce accidents.
