The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) announced that 60 retail outlets are currently operating 24 hours a day in Qatar to ensure the availability of goods in the market and facilitate the supply chain. Hassan Sultan Al Ghanim, Assistant Undersecretary for Consumer Affairs at the ministry, told Qatar TV that the government has taken a number of precautionary measures and initiated emergency procedures in light of the current situation.
Initially, only 22 outlets were operating 24 hours a day. However, this number has now been increased to 60 in coordination with business establishments to meet the increasing demand. In addition, about twenty drinking water plants in the country are currently operating around the clock. Many bakeries have also extended their operating hours to meet the increased demand for products during the holy month of Ramadan.
Al Ghanim added that field inspection teams are active 24 hours a day to ensure accurate monitoring in the markets. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Ministry of Municipality are jointly conducting daily inspections in all trading establishments, including small and medium-sized enterprises.
