Qatar has successfully completed the trial run of Muwasalat (Karwa) electric robotaxis under the supervision of the Ministry of Transport. The trial run was between the headquarters of the Ministry of Transport and the Old Doha Port. This project is part of the full rollout of driverless autonomous vehicles in the country. The success of this trial run, which was conducted in compliance with the highest safety standards, paves the way for a new change in the transportation sector with the help of technology and artificial intelligence, according to the authorities of the Department of Transport.
The first phase of the project, which began in August 2025, consisted of 2,500 test trips. These trips, which were supervised by a safety officer in the driver’s seat, were launched on a commercial basis last December through the Karwa app. After the first phase, which was 94 percent successful, the second phase will test robotaxis that operate completely autonomously (remote operation) without safety officers. These will operate on three routes: Old Doha Port – The Gate Mall, Souq Waqif – Sheraton Doha Hotel, and MIA – West Bay. The service will be available to the public through the Karwa app after successfully completing all security checks.
