The Wanda Doha Diamond League athletics meet, which was scheduled to be held at the Qatar Sports Club on May 8, has been postponed. According to the new decision, the competitions will be held at the Khalifa International Stadium on June 19. After discussions between the organizers and Qatari authorities, the decision to postpone the meet was made to ensure the complete safety of athletes and spectators.
The venue was moved from the Qatar Sports Club to the Khalifa Stadium due to the high temperatures expected in Doha in June. The stadium, which hosted the 2019 World Athletics Championships and the Diamond League, has special temperature-regulated systems. Therefore, despite the high temperatures outside, athletes will be able to compete safely without any difficulties.
The Doha meet was previously scheduled to be the first match of the 2026 Diamond League season. However, the revised dates mean that the Doha Diamond League will be the eighth match of the season, sandwiched between the Oslo (June 10) and Paris (June 28) meets. This means that the Diamond League season, which begins in Shanghai on May 16, will conclude with the finals in Brussels on September 4 and 5. Organizers said that Diamond League officials will continue to assess the situation in the Middle East in the coming weeks and are committed to ensuring the safest possible venue for competitors and spectators.
