Undersecretary Engineer Ali bin Mohammed Al Ali announced that the Ministry of Municipality in Qatar has adopted a comprehensive and innovative strategy to control mosquitoes. The density and spread of mosquitoes are detected in real time using surveillance systems based on geographic information technology and smart traps. Spraying pesticides using drones over large areas and breeding ‘Gambusia’ fish, which feed on mosquito larvae, in stagnant water are being successfully tested.
Engineer Ali noted that the ministry received 25,642 applications for household mosquito control between January and April 17. He stressed that only approved pesticides that meet the strictest health and environmental safety standards are used, and that trained teams apply the drugs in a manner that is not harmful to humans and the environment, taking into account the amount, time and population density. This project, which aims to reduce the spread of mosquitoes and protect public health, is expected to improve living conditions in various regions of the country.
