Expatriates can now use a valid Qatar ID (QID) instead of a health card to seek treatment at government hospitals and health centers in Qatar. The Minister of Public Health, H. E. Mansour bin Ibrahim Al Mahmoud, issued a new circular in this regard (Circular No. 10/2026). This facility can be used at all government health services in the country, including Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC). As part of this, the printing and issuance of new health cards to expatriates has been discontinued.
Although the printing of health cards has been stopped, the fees for obtaining a new one and renewing them annually will remain the same. Expatriates will only need to show their Qatar ID when visiting hospitals. The services will be provided after verifying the patients’ health numbers through a computer system. In September last year, Qatari citizens were given the option to use the Qatar ID instead of their health card, completely free of charge. This change has now been applied to expatriates as well.
