Authorities have informed that fake messages are being circulated through email and mobile messages (SMS) in the name of the General Tax Authority (GTA). Such messages contain suspicious links promising tax refunds or asking for updating personal information. The authority has issued a strong warning against clicking on such links.
Key suggestions:
- Avoid links: Do not open links in unfamiliar messages or share personal information.
- No confidential information asked for: The authority will never ask for passwords, PIN numbers or other confidential information through email or SMS.
- Official channels only: All tax-related services and procedures are available only through the ‘Dhareeba’ platform and authorized official channels.
The authority urged taxpayers to verify the authenticity of messages through official channels and to immediately report any suspicious activity to the relevant authorities.
