The Geminid meteor shower will peak on the night of December 13, which Qataris will be able to see very well from Al Qararah in Al Wakra. The Geminids are one of the most powerful meteor showers of the year, with experts saying that 60 to 120 meteors will be visible per hour. The moon will rise late and will only be partially illuminated, meaning the sky will be dark.
The Qatar Astronomy and Space Club will be hosting a free public viewing event in Al Qararah from 8pm until sunrise. The meteors will be visible to the naked eye without any special equipment. The Geminids come from the asteroid 3200 Phaethon, and appear every December.
