All shops must ensure e-payment services: Ministry of Commerce and Industry

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has reminded all businesses to make it mandatory to provide electronic payment options to customers. This law has been in place since 2017 and is mandatory for all commercial establishments.

Non-compliance with this law is a legal offence under the 2015 law. Shops or businesses that fail to provide e-payment services can be closed for 15 days or such other period as the authorities decide. The ministry also appealed to the public to call the helpline number 16001 to report any complaints in this regard.
