Souq Waqif gets busy ahead of Garangao Night celebrations

As Garangao Night approaches, shoppers at Qatar’s famous Souq Waqif see a surge in activity. Families flock to buy traditional clothes, nuts and sweets for this beloved celebration. Garangao, which marks the 15th night of Ramadan, is a festive occasion for children who celebrate the middle of the holy month in preparation for Eid al-Fitr.

On the 14th day of Ramadan, children begin the festivities by donning beautiful traditional clothes and collecting nuts and sweets from their neighbours. This vibrant event fosters community spirit, as children challenge each other to collect the most resources.

Garangao Night strengthens social bonds, bringing children, families and neighbourhoods together in this tradition. Despite its long history, the tradition is still celebrated today across Qatar and the Gulf.
