The Qatar Chess Association has announced that the first Qatar Rapid Team Chess Championship will be held at the Qatar Chess Training Center on October 16–17, 2025. The two-day event is open to all players with a valid FIDE ID. Registration closes on October 5.
Tournament format and schedule
- System: 7-round Swiss
- Time limit: 10 minutes + 5 seconds per move
- Day 1 (October 16, 5pm): Rounds 1–3
- Day 2 (October 17, 4pm): Rounds 4–7
Team rules
- Each team must have 4 players: three on the open boards and one on the women’s board.
- Players with the titles FM, IM, and GM can only play on Board 1.
- Women with these titles can play on Board 1 or Board 4.

- Entry Fee: QAR 200 per team
- Prize Fund: Total QAR 21,000
- 1st Place – QAR 8,000
- 2nd Place – QAR 6,000
- 3rd Place – QAR 4,000
- 4th Place – QAR 2,000
- 5th Place – QAR 1,000
Scoring & Rules
- Match Points: Win = 2, Draw = 1, Loss = 0
- Tie-Breaks: Game Points, Sonneborn-Berger, Head-to-Head.
- The tournament will follow the FIDE Rapid Chess Rules.
- Players must wear decent clothing; No shorts or hats.
- No mobile phones or devices are allowed inside the playing hall.
- The referee’s decisions are final
Appeals can be submitted within 15 minutes after a round, and a refundable deposit of QAR 200 is required. Pairings will be announced before each round.
