From September 12, 2025, Qatari citizens can use their Qatari ID card instead of health card to receive free health services across the country. Minister of Public Health Mansour bin Ibrahim Al Mahmoud issued Decision No. (46) of 2025, which repeals the previous law (Decision No. 21 of 2023) that required a fee to obtain or replace a health card. However, citizens will still need health cards, subject to current laws.
The change was made for three reasons:
- Simplify procedures
- Use the same official documents across services
- Improve the patient experience
