Qatar had the lowest unemployment rate in the second quarter of 2024, according to a new report by the GCC Statistical Center (GCC-Stat). The unemployment rate in Qatar was just 0.1%. The study shows that 84.5% of Qatar’s workforce is expatriate, and the majority of them are men. 41.1% of Qatari workers are women, one of the highest shares in the GCC. For every 100 working Qatari women, there are 143 men – a much smaller gap than in other Gulf countries.
Qatar employs about 2.2 million expatriate workers, ranking fourth in the region after Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Oman. Despite its heavy reliance on foreign workers, the national workforce has remained stable, with a slight growth of 0.4% compared to the previous quarter. The report highlights Qatar’s strong labor market, female participation, and efforts to maintain labor market efficiency, making Qatar one of the most stable economies in the Gulf.
