Doha, the capital of Qatar, has the highest number of public transport kilometres per million people in the world. Qatar ranks third globally in the number of buses per million people and fourth in the number of metro cars per million people.
The report also praises Qatar for offering affordable public transport. It also highlights Qatar’s strong efforts in using clean energy and smart digital systems for public transport. The Doha Metro is known as one of the most innovative systems. It played a key role in facilitating transportation during major events such as the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The Lusail Tram is known for its modern urban design. It is solar-powered and features smart charging and tracking technology.
UITP says Qatar is a global model in public transportation. It has shown strong progress in efficiency, sustainability and technology. These efforts support Qatar National Vision 2030 and prepare the country to host major international events.
