Extreme heat: Ministry of Labor bans midday bike deliveries

The Ministry of Labor has announced that it will ban two-wheeler delivery services during peak daytime hours throughout the summer season, as temperatures soar between 47°C and 49°C across Qatar.

Motorbike deliveries will be banned between 10:00 am and 3:30 pm from June 1 to September 15. The measure aims to protect delivery workers from heat stress and harsh working conditions, especially during the midday hours when temperatures soar.

The ministry stressed that delivery companies can only continue to operate during these hours using closed vehicles. The restriction is part of a midday work ban that will be implemented annually from 2022, which mandates rest periods for outdoor workers during the hottest part of the day.

Thousands of delivery workers in food apps, restaurants and retail outlets are expected to benefit from the decision. Officials say this is a necessary measure to ensure the health and safety of workers amid the harsh weather.
