During a visit to Qatar as part of former US President Donald Trump’s Gulf tour, Qatar Airways signed a major deal to buy 210 planes from US aircraft manufacturer Boeing. The signing ceremony was held in Doha on Wednesday and was attended by President Trump and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
The deal includes Boeing 777X and 787 aircraft powered by GE Aerospace engines. The White House estimates the deal is worth $96 billion. Trump said the deal was “the largest jet order in Boeing’s history,” citing Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg, who signed the deal with Qatar Airways CEO Badr Mohammed Al Mir.
Earlier, Trump had said the deal was worth more than $200 billion and included 160 aircraft, but the White House later shared the correct figures. The White House said the total deals signed between the US and Qatar during the visit would bring in at least $1.2 trillion in economic value.
