The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MECC) is planning to introduce ecotourism in Qatar’s protected areas. This will include activities such as hiking, walking, and sports. This will allow people to get to know nature and enjoy it responsibly. Yousef Ibrahim Al Hamar, Director of Wildlife Development at MECC, shared that a detailed plan for ecotourism in protected areas will be announced soon.
MECC recently launched ecotourism activities in Ras Abruk, a protected area known for its rare wildlife and plants. Khor Al Adaid is another popular destination that has been welcoming visitors for years. Qatar has several nature reserves such as Al Reem, Al Taqira, and Khor Al Adaid. These are are maintained to protect the ecosystem. MECC is committed to promoting sustainable tourism and ensuring that activities in these protected areas do not harm the environment or wildlife.
