Must-Visit Attractions and Activities at Katara Cultural Village, Doha

Qatar is a country rich in culture and heritage in the Middle East Asia. Built in an ancient style, Katara Cultural Village is a self-styled cultural village nestled between the financial district of West Bay and the crescent-shaped towers of The Pearl Residential. Bordered by a vast beach on one side and the twin Katara Hills on the other, Katara is renowned for its art, culture, and diverse cuisine. Here are some of the must-sees in Katara.

Katara Mosque

Designed by Turkey’s Zeynep Fadilloglu, considered the first female architect to specialize in mosques, the mosque features Persian and Turkish tile and enamel work in blue and gold. This makes it stand out from the surrounding buildings. The mosque’s décor was inspired by the Dolmabahçe Palace in Istanbul, and the minaret, dome, and prayer niche (mihrab) were inspired by famous mosques around the world.

Golden Mosque

This is the second mosque in Qatar, and although it is small, it is one of the finest works. Facing the amphitheater, the mosque is a beautiful sight, covered in golden tiles that sparkle in the sun.

Discover the amphitheater

This classical Greek-style amphitheater is spread over 3,275 square meters. It reflects Islamic influences in the arched entrances and other features. It can seat up to 5,000 people, and offers stunning views of the sea on one side and the Cultural Village on the other. The installation ‘Force of Nature’, depicting Mother Nature attacking the world with a piece of cloth, stands as a beautiful sight between the amphitheater and the water.

Located in the heart of Katara – The Cultural Village in Doha, 21 High Street is a favorite spot for shopping enthusiasts. 21 High Street is an open-air air-conditioned shopping mall.

Art Galleries

Katara is a haven for artists with several art galleries, workshops, exhibition areas, and performance areas. Nestled among the alleys of Katara, the Qatar Museum Gallery showcases the work of local and international artists.

Al Thuraya Planetarium

The Al Thuraya Planetarium is a must-see for families and space enthusiasts alike. The planetarium features a full-dome digital system that can take up to 200 visitors around the universe. It features fascinating exhibits on astronomy, the atmosphere, geography, and the oceans.

Beach

The vast public beach in Katara is a great place for visitors to take a break. Water sports such as speedboat rides, knee boarding, parasailing, and water skiing are also available. Beach equipment rentals are also readily available and very affordable.

Katara Hills

The Katara Hills are located to the north and south of the Katara Cultural Village. The lush landscaping, water features, and walking trails are a great place for picnickers and walkers. From the top of the hill, you can enjoy the view of the village and the sea beyond. It is a beautiful sight especially at sunset.
