Children should not be allowed to sit in the front seat of vehicles-MoI

The Ministry of Home Affairs has banned children below the age of 10 from sitting in the front seat of vehicles (MoI). “Children should not be allowed to sit in the front seat while driving,” the ministry said in its X-platform, referring to Clause 3, Article 55 of the Traffic Act.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has appealed to parents and guardians to follow these important instructions to ensure travel safety of the younger age group. They suggested the use of car seats or booster seats, child restraint systems, and ensuring that children sit in the backseat of the vehicle.

As part of its efforts to ensure children’s travel safety, the Ministry of Public Health has selected Hamad International Training Centre (HITC) of Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) to lead the Qatar Child Passenger Safety Programme (QCPS), a national initiative.

Road traffic accidents are the leading cause of death for people of all ages in Qatar. Every year, about 200 people, including children, lose their lives in car accidents, and about 800 people suffer serious injuries.
