Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) plastic and orthopaedic surgery teams have made a successful chapter in the field of health by removing thigh bones through two intensive surgeries. In Qatar, these teams have been successful in reconstructing the thigh bone through the Capa-Masquelet technique to avoid the patient’s legs being amputated.
The first case was a 16-year-old patient, who had previously undergone multiple reconstructive surgeries following the removal of a malignant tumor in the thigh. The second case was a 30-year-old man who suffered serious injuries to his thigh following a car accident.
In such cases, the need for an advanced technology called Kappa-Masclet, which helps the health sector to reconstruct long bones, including those of the hands, feet and thighs, has been highlighted by Dr Ahmed, Consultant, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Hamad General Hospital. Mohammed Munir.
The use of this technology in cases of serious problems with the bones caused by acids, cancerous tumors, bone infections, etc., helps to protect the limbs and alleviate the acute problems caused by bone loss (amputation of the limbs).
After both cases were referred to the surgical and plastic teams at HGH, it was carefully decided to use the Kappa-Masclet technique to reconstruct the thigh bone and avoid amputation of the legs.
