The Pearl-Qatar in Doha is a luxury residential complex being developed on an artificial island off the coast of Doha’s West Bay. The 4-square-kilometer island will feature 32 kilometers of new coastline, private villas, dozens of apartment towers, hundreds of homes, luxury hotels, upscale stores, and restaurants. The island will have space for 41,000 people. It is one of the most ambitious development projects in Qatar, and is also one that offers freehold and residential rights to international clients.
The name ‘Pearl’ refers to the major pearl diving industry based on the shallow seabed that the island builds on. Qatar was one of Asia’s leading pearl traders before the Japanese introduced cheap pearls shortly before Qatar’s oil boom. The island’s design also resembles a string of pearls.
The gateway to the island is ‘La Croisette’, the world’s longest waterfront luxury retail promenade, home to international hospitality brands and high-end boutiques. The large Porto Arabia district includes 31 apartment towers around a circular lake, a central island and a marina with space for 750 boats. It includes more than 400 town homes, more than 6,000 parking spaces, extensive space for retail stores, and internationally renowned outlets. Brands include Giorgio Armani, Hugo Boss, Roberto Cavalli and Elie Saab. There will be a ‘Venice-like community’ with an extensive canal system, pedestrian-friendly squares and plazas, and townhouses on the waterfront. There is even a replica of Venice’s Rialto Bridge. The Pearl Qatar plays a key role in marking Qatar on the world map. It is a favorite destination for tourists visiting Qatar.
