World-renowned chess players are set to compete in the Qatar Masters Open!

An elite lineup of world-class chess players will be the highlight of the fourth edition of the Qatar Masters Open. The Qatar Chess Association (QCA) announced that the tournament will begin on December 2 at Aspire Zone and will continue until December 13.

The tournament was previously held in 2014, 2015, and 2023, and preparations for this year’s event are in their final stages, according to the organizing committee.

In an exclusive interview with the Qatar News Agency (QNA), the President of the Qatar Chess Association, Mohammed Al Mudahka, confirmed that this year’s tournament will feature 100 players from 25 countries, with a total prize pool of $108,000.

The tournament will include Uzbekistan’s Nodirbek Abdusattorov, ranked sixth in the world and last year’s runner-up, as well as reigning champion Nodirbek Yakubboev. Iran’s Parham Maghsoodloo, ranked seventh in last year’s tournament, and India’s Dommaraju Gukesh, ranked eighth globally, will also compete.

Representing Qatar will be Grandmaster Hussein Aziz, while UAE champion Salem Abdulrahman, who won the Best Arab Player award in the previous edition, will make his fourth appearance. Egyptian player Adham Fawzy has also confirmed his participation. Registration closes tomorrow.
